Is It Worth Planning Fusions Before Catching More Pokémon?
I've been playing Pokémon Infinite Fusion for a few months, and one thing I still can't decide is whether it's better to plan a team from the beginning or simply let the adventure decide everything.
My first save file was completely random. If I caught a Pokémon that looked interesting, I used it. If I found another one later that seemed cooler, I replaced it without thinking twice. At the time, I wasn't worried about building the strongest team. I just wanted to enjoy the game and see as many fusion designs as possible.
That approach was fun, but after reaching the middle of the game I started noticing a few problems. My team didn't really have a clear direction. Some Pokémon were useful in battles, while others stayed on the team only because I liked how they looked. I eventually reached a point where I had to stop and rebuild almost everything.
Instead of starting over immediately, I decided to learn from that experience. For my next playthrough, I wanted to be a little more organized without taking away the fun of experimenting.
I began reading community discussions to see how other players approached team building. I expected everyone to recommend the same popular combinations, but I was surprised by how different the answers were.
Some players said they never plan ahead because discovering unexpected fusions is the best part of the game. Others explained that they always think about their final team before they even choose their starter Pokémon. There were also players somewhere in the middle who planned only a few key team members and left the rest to chance.
That made me realize there isn't a perfect method.
While looking for ideas, because I wanted to refresh my memory about different Pokémon and think about combinations I hadn't considered before. Browsing through different Pokémon actually gave me several new ideas without copying someone else's team.
Later, someone mentioned using an infinite fusion calculator to compare possible combinations before creating them. At first I thought using a tool like that might remove the excitement of discovering things naturally, but after trying it myself I changed my opinion.
I don't use it to search for the strongest fusion in the game.
Instead, I use it when I'm stuck between two or three different ideas. Sometimes I already know which Pokémon I want to use, but I'm unsure which partner would make the team more balanced. Being able to compare a few options helps me make a decision without spending hours changing my team later.
One thing I've noticed is that I enjoy keeping the same team members for a longer time now. During my first playthrough, I replaced Pokémon almost every time I entered a new area. Now I try to give each fusion a real chance before deciding whether it belongs on my team.
That simple habit has made the game much more enjoyable.
I've also started using Pokémon that I completely ignored in older Pokémon games. Some of them never seemed very interesting before, but Infinite Fusion gives them new life because they can become part of combinations I never imagined.
Another thing I appreciate is that there isn't constant pressure to play efficiently. Some games make you feel like every decision has to be perfect, but Infinite Fusion encourages experimentation. Even when a fusion doesn't work out, I usually learn something useful for my next attempt.
I've had several moments where I almost skipped a Pokémon because I thought it wasn't worth using. Later, after seeing another player mention it in a discussion, I gave it a chance and ended up keeping that fusion for the rest of my playthrough. Experiences like that remind me not to judge combinations too quickly.
I also think the community is one of the reasons the game remains so enjoyable. Players don't only share powerful teams. They also post funny discoveries, unusual sprite designs, and creative challenges they've invented for themselves. Reading those discussions often gives me ideas that I never would have thought of on my own.
Another habit I've developed is writing down interesting combinations whenever I come across them. I don't necessarily use them right away, but having a small list makes future playthroughs feel exciting because I already have new ideas waiting to be tested.
I've learned that there isn't one "correct" way to build a team. Some players enjoy planning every detail before starting, while others make every decision in the moment. Both approaches seem to create memorable experiences.
Personally, I think I've found a balance that works for me. I like having a rough plan without following it too strictly. If I discover an unexpected fusion that seems fun, I'll still change my mind. After all, the surprise is one of the biggest reasons I enjoy the game.
Even after spending many hours with Infinite Fusion, I still come across combinations that I've never seen before. That's something I really appreciate. Every playthrough feels different because there are always new possibilities waiting to be explored.
So I wanted to ask everyone here.
Do you decide on your team before you begin playing, or do you let the game surprise you as you go? Have you ever planned an entire team only to completely change it halfway through the adventure? I'd love to hear how other players approach team building because I'm always interested in trying a different strategy on my next save.
